Science Teacher Grant up to $350 for 6 th, 7 th, and 8 th Grade Science teachers in Duluth-Superior area (including Proctor, Hermantown, Two Harbors & Cloquet):
DEADLINE December 1, 2007
Grant Dollars Available
The Lake Superior Chapter of the Association for Women in Science (AWIS-LSC) has grant funds available for award. One of our goals is to encourage girls and young women to pursue careers in science, math and engineering. We recognize that there is a decline in interest in these disciplines from grade school onwards in all children, but it is particularly marked in young women. Thus, we would like to make these funds available to science teachers to encourage girls and young women to learn more about science and/or science career opportunities.
Grant Stipulations
Grants will be awarded to those applicants that can demonstrate how the award will best achieve one of the goals identified above. The grant may be used to assist girls or young women to take science and math classes, consider science and math as a career, or in other ways to encourage them in science and math. The grant is open to any junior high school science teacher in the Duluth-Superior area (including Proctor, Hermantown, Two Harbors & Cloquet) to:
- purchase equipment or supplies for use in teaching science or research; or
- field trips which will expose students to science learning opportunities or career opportunities,
- attend special scientific training courses.
- attend and /or present at a science education conference.
The amount of available grant money will be up to $350 and must be used by August 1, 2008.
